Council Jobs & Employment In Cumbria: Application Process

If your Council Job application is successful you will be invited for interview. This may come in the form of a letter, email or telephone call. So be on your guard and make sure that you give a good first impression.

  • Confirm you can attend as soon as possible. Not being able to attend on the date and time given may result in you not being considered for the post.
  • If you need any special help at the interview such as mobility, Braille or large print etc. take the opportunity to let them know when you confirm your attendance.
  • Dress smartly and business like for the interview, no matter how informally you expect to be dressed for the job itself.

  • The interviews will follow a structured approach so that all candidates are given the same questions and opportunity to present themselves. More than one person or a panel may interview you.
  • It is usual for the interviewer to take notes as it helps them in the final decision-making process so don't be put off by it.
  • If you are asked to sit any test just be yourself and if you're unsure about anything just ask. You will usually be informed of any test prior to your interview so you'll know what to expect.
  • You will be advised in advance or at the interview whether second interviews will be conducted. It is normal to be given some indication of time scales to fill the post at the interview itself.
